WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME
IDEALOGY OF WOMEN SHGS
Women consider as the medium of social change, by promoting them using appropriate methodologies helps in the country holistic development. Believe that the CHANGE will occurs when the poor becomes the rich in all aspects, like exercising their knowledge, skills with full potentials. With the approval from the Government of Tamilnadu,in 1997, IWDI started to mobiles the rural and Urban women into the fold of Self help groups.
SELF HELP GROUPS
IWDI had been one of the leading NGOs in Tamil Nadu, which worked with the urban slums and rural villages women under the Self Help Groups. The programme was being monitored by the Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation Ltd.
IWDI had been supporting 1517 Women SHGs in Chennai City’s slums with 23134 and 1479 SHGs with 20680 members in the Gummidipoondi block. All the SHG members had been provided with Capacity Building trainings on better management of the SHGs, savings and credit both internal and external. IWDI imparted Income generation program and Leadership trainings to them, Under the Income generation program, women had been motivated to have dairy development, tailoring etc so that the micro enterprises could lead to economic empowerment of the women.
CAPACITY BUILDING
Capacity building is one of the major task for working with the SHGs, We do concentrate on the capacity building with expecting the following changes due to the training and motivational camps.
